Virtual Reality

These are some virtual reality projects I have worked on over the years. I have been fascinated by the medium ever since I bought my first VR headset an oculus rift DK2 back in 2014 and have been experimenting and working with the medium ever since.

When i bought my first VR headset in 2014 I spent 3 weeks recreating a photorealistic copy of one of the rooms in my house. I achieved this by measuring the dimensions of various objects and the modelling them in Maya along with texturing them using photographs. i then imported the models into Unreal Engine 4 to create the VR Simulation whilst paying close attention to match the lighting of the virtaul scene to the real life room I was sat in at the time. I also used photogrammetry to make a digitial clone of the Ganesha statue and then optimised the mesh for use in VR.

As some freelance work i did for FunktionCreep which involved creating video projection mapping content for 4 interior walls in a hotel that had yet to be built i was presented with a unique problem as to how to test it worked and present a preview to the client.

To acommplish this I 3D modelled a basic version of the room then used UV mapping to virtually projection map the content onto the walls and then rendered the video off as an equirectangular video which could be presented to the client on a tablet or VR headset.

As far as I am aware I am the only person I know of who has done this.

This is one of many personal projects experimenting with creating imersive virtual reality art. I was able to render this off as an Equirectangular 360 video to easily share online and on mobile devices and VR headsets without needing to run the realtime geometry based VR scene.
